The James Bay Market Society is a big supporter of Victoria’s Lower Island FolkFest Society; a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to the presentation, preservation and promotion of traditional and contemporary folk music and regional cultural traditions involving both professional and emerging musicians from British Columbia, other parts of Canada, and around the world. Our primary event is FolkWest, an annual summer music festival in Victoria as well as concerts throughout the year. Their mission is to create peaceful, celebratory events, based on the values of respect, caring, cooperation, environmental sustainability and accessibility. Through workshops and mentoring, the Lower Island Folkfest Society provides learning opportunities for both artists and audience to foster and preserve folk music traditions.
Folkwest is an annual 2 day music festival showcasing folk-roots music. Planted in folk tradition, Folkwest is committed to presenting music that takes traditional influences and creates something new; folk and singer/songwriter music for a new generation, as well as acts that represent the purest forms of regional cultural traditions such as Appalachian, bluegrass, old-time, Acadian, Quebecois, Metis, western-swing, Cape Breton fiddling or acoustic blues (to give just a few examples).©1970-2022 James Bay Market Society.
