Local Singer/Songwriter Kemal Evans takes the stage at the James Bay Market this Saturday, June 23 from 11am-2pm
From acoustic grooves to free-style rhyming, Kemal Evan’s will reach out and move you with an incredible repertoire of inspired and original material that comes loaded with funky beats, ear-catching melodies and a shaking good time and yet..
Just beneath the bright, highly rhythmic surface, there is a soulful thoughtfulness – a bedrock of songwriting craft and emotional insight – that stays with listeners long after the notes drift away.
Kemal’s roots run deep in music and the West Coast. His musical influences include everyone from Sublime and Ben Harper to A Tribe Called Quest. Following his 2008 debut CD “No Pressure System”, Kemal formed the Kemal Evans Project (KEP). The KEP is best described as original and captivating with amazing harmonies.
Having toured Western Canada extensively (opening for such names as Jully Black, Gift of Gab & The Mighty Underdogs and Naughty by Nature), Kemal is an up-and-comer that has caught the ear of music industry heavyweights Virgin Radio (Vancouver) and the 2010/2011 Canadian Music Week Conference in Toronto.
Kemal’s songwriting talent won him the 2010 Astral Media Radio Star Songwriting competition and is now working on his second album with producer Roger Swan (K-os, Swollen Members, The Rascalz)… You can hear 5 of these songs HERE
This is going to be a great show and one you definitely don’t want to miss! Come hang out with us, get comfy in the grass.. and be swept away by the sweet sound of an incredibly talented local artist..
See you all Saturday! 🙂 ~Sarah Maria xo
