We have had two incredible Saturday Markets so far this season and this coming Saturday, May 19th is going to be nothing short of amazing with Vancouver local band Headwater performing from 11am-2pm!
Headwater has gotten a lot of press attention in past weeks for the release of their 3rd album entitled Push released on May 4th, 2012. The James Bay Market will be their first performance on Vancouver island since the release and sure to be an incredible show!
There is much to be said about the quality of sound that these guys seem to effortlessly offer an audience and many media sources have testified to this with a number of stellar articles and reviews. In the few minutes I spent researching online I found Headwater highlighted in The Province, The Straight, The Vancouver Sun, Vanmusic and The Vancouver Courier!
Their music is enjoyed by such a diverse and timeless demographic of listeners, I even found them highlighted on the Quilter’s Connection blog from a woman that heard them play while travelling on the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria. I too was first introduced to Headwater on the ferry, becoming an instant fan of their exceptional instrumentals and epic harmonies.
The DIY Musician Blog wrote a great article about Headwaters success in offering impromptu shows on the ferry that’s definitely worth the read for musicians and music lovers alike.
The band is made up of musicians Jonas Shandel (Vocals/Guitar/Banjo), Matt Bryant (Vocals/Mandolin), Tim Tweedale (Steel Guitars) and Pat Metzger (Bass). Headwater started out in the early 2000′s and have released three albums to date including My Old Friend (2006), Lay You Down (2009) and their most recent album PUSH (released May 4 2012). While PUSH is a departure from the roots/folk stylings Headwater is known for, the heart of the new sound is great vocal harmonies, seriously catchy choruses and some seriously tasty grooves!
In addition to the daytime show at the The James Bay Market, Headwater will be performing an evening house concert fundraiser with a percentage of proceeds being donated to the James Bay Market Society to help cover the cost of offering a whole new level of entertainment to the community this season.
